Configuration file stored on a cable ISP network; fetched by the cable modem during the boot-up sequence; determines the maximum downstream and upstream transfer rates and tells the cable modem if there are any firmware updates available.

The CM file resides on the cable modem and typically is not transferred to the computer; CM files are referenced by the ISP and should not be opened manually.
